Cambridge has nearly 5,000 apartments for rent, about a thousand less than Waterloo, and two-thirds of which are 2 bedroom apartments. These apartments are found in 173 buildings with less than 20 apartments and 60 buildings with more than 20 apartments - Cambridge has a greater proportion of smaller buildings than either Kitchener or Waterloo. Average vacancies are the highest in the region, but that is welcome news for renters since it means turnovers will make apartments available for viewing and the wait for the apartment renters want shouldn't be long.
Rents in Cambridge for 1 bedroom apartments range from $650 to $1,100, rents for 2 bedroom apartments range from $725 to $1,300, and rents for 3 bedroom apartments range from $850 to over $1,400. Rents are significantly higher for newer apartment buildings. There are four relatively new building in north Cambridge-but price sensitive renters should be able to easily find an apartment in their price range amongst older properties which are spread across the city.
Renters should check out the following areas of Cambridge: north Cambridge (Hespeler and Preston) for newer rental apartment buildings and older buildings with good access to Highway 401; downtown and south Cambridge (Galt) for older but more affordable buildings. Grocery stores and shopping plazas are found in Hespeler (north Cambridge), along Hespeler Road / Water Street in central Cambridge, and along Dundas Street South in the south half of the city near Main Street. The city's hospital is found along Coronation Boulevard, which connects with King Street East and Water Street.
