This holiday commemorates the sacrifice and commitment of the past and present members of Canada’s armed forces. Our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, believe this day is important and want to help you find a way to participate in this year’s holiday. For today’s post, the team has a few simple suggestions on what to do on November 11th for their Cambridge apartment residents.

Royal Canadian Legion services

The Royal Canadian Legion will be hosting Remembrance Day services throughout the city of Cambridge beginning in the morning on Tuesday, November 11th. Many of the services taking place are located near Williams and McDaniel’s properties. For example, the Galt Branch 121 (82 Ainslie Street) will meet at Legion Hall (4 Veterans Way) at 9:30 a.m. The event includes a parade to the Cenotaph in Queen’s Square. Legion Hall is only a two-minute drive or eleven-minute walk from Cedar Towers (10 George Street).  Piano music and refreshments will be provided between services at Idea Exchange (1 North Square), a five-minute drive from Olympia Court Apartments (72 Alison Avenue).

Music events

Listening to music can be a meaningful way to commemorate the commitment of others, past and present. Music for Remembrance Day will be taking place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (810 King Street East) beginning at 12:15 p.m. This free event will feature organ music. The church is an eight-minute drive from the Executive Suites (10 George Street South).

Wear a poppy

A long-standing tradition of Remembrance Day is to wear a red poppy. The red poppy became a way of honoring those who have fallen in war when, following World War I, the flower could be found in bloom in some of the war’s most tragic battlefields. Poppies are worn from the end of October through to November 11th in commemoration.

Watch the national service

The National Ceremony commemorating Remembrance Day will once again take place in Ottawa. This special event held at Memorial Hall will be broadcast nationwide. Watch a live stream of the event online.
